Gradient maps can be used to recolor images as shown in Technique 27. Depending upon the gradient you select and how you apply it, the recoloring can go from subtle to wild.In this series of images, I applied the listed gradient directly to the vultures in the left column. This certainly did change the bird from its original colors, but the results were rather startling.The images in the right column use the same gradients that were applied to their mates in the left column, but instead of applying the gradient map to the image, I applied it to a copied layer. Then I adjusted the blending mode for the copied layer, blending the recolored layer with the original. I set the top right image to Luminosity blending mode, the middle right image to Hue blending mode, and the lower right image to Color blending mode.
