Channel Mixing
Color Plate 54-1
Technique 54 shows you how to use the Channel Mixer to recolor images without affecting the detail. The Channel Mixer works by changing how the channels mix together. It adjusts the output of each channel by adjusting how light or dark the channel is. Swapping the color channels creates different color blends, which results in image recoloring.I started with a photograph of a white peacock (top). Then, I used the Channel Mixer to swap the contents of the Red channel with the Green channel and vice versa. The result was a violet peacock (second from top). Then, I went back to the original image and swapped the contents of the Red channel with the Blue channel and vice versa. This resulted in a golden peacock (third from top). For the final change of plumage, I returned once more to the original image and swapped the contents of the Blue and Green channels. This created a peacock with cyan feathers (bottom).
