Making a Silkscreen
Color Plate 40-1
I have always enjoyed Andy Warhol’s photo silkscreens. So, I thought it would be great if I could duplicate the effect using Photoshop. Technique 40 explores one way to do this.I started with a friendly looking green lizard (top left), and applied the Equalize and High Pass filters to the Blue and Green channels (top right). Next, I applied the Threshold filter to the Red channel (upper middle left), then switched to the Blue channel and applied the Median filter (upper middle right). Finally, I applied the Threshold filter to the Blue channel and added a black background (lower middle). As an experiment, I ran through the steps again, but instead started with the Red and Green channels for the first steps, then switched to the Blue channel for the final steps. The results — with a green background — are unique to say the least (bottom).
