Unsharp Mask Filter

The Unsharp Mask filter is one of the all-time great filters. Technique 37 shows you how to use it to nudge a little sharpness into an image, or how to use it to increase the sharpness until the effect is right over the edge. I started with an image of two masks that was pretty good, though a bit blurry around the edges (top left). I then applied the Unsharp Mask filter to three duplicate images using increasing settings each time (top right, upper middle left and right).In the next three images, I applied the Unsharp Mask filter to only one channel in each image. Notice how the edges are enhanced with the specific color (lower middle left and right, and lower left).For the final image (lower right), I also applied the Ink Outlines filter to the blue channel.
