Many business continuity planning analysts focus only on IT strategies when developing a plan. The point that they are missing is that a healthcare organization is dependent on many components or resource categories to be functional. Each of these components must be examined for a single point of failure and a strategy must be developed to mitigate that risk. On the next page is the conceptual model for a typical healthcare organization. It still applies in the healthcare world. If each component for each business unit within a healthcare organization is addressed and accounted for in the recovery plan, then the plan should prove successful when called upon during an actual disaster.
