1. Changing Reel Names In this exercise, you will learn how to change reel names in the Browser.
1. | Start Final Cut, if it isn't running already, and open Chapter 13 Lesson. This is the same project you used in Chapter 12, "Output Your Project." This project file may need rendering. | 2. | Go to the Browser and scroll right until you find the Reel column. Click the Reel column header and drag it left until the Reel column is next to the Name column. | 3. | Notice that Blue sky has no reel name and Down mountain has the wrong one. | 4. | To change a reel name, double-click in the Reel field and enter a new name. To start, change the reel name for Blue sky to HOT_01. Reel names are part of the timecode data, which is stored permanently in the media file on your hard disk, along with timecode, audio, and video data. This data allows Final Cut to properly identify a media file when it is imported into a new project, by reading both the timecode and reel name. This dialog box appears whenever you modify a reel name, alerting you that the new reel name will be recorded in the media file. | 5. | Another way to change a reel name is to Ctrl+click the Reel field and choose the correct reel name from the pop-up menu. Change the Down mountain reel to HOT_01, as well. | 6. | Verify that all other reel names are set to HOT_01. If not, change them. Once verification is complete, this exercise is done. Keep the lesson file open. |
