Helpful Software There are lots of programs that make working with Final Cut funfrom fascinating LiveType animations and Soundtrack loops to tons and tons of special effects plug-ins.However, because we are in the Troubleshooting section, here are six software packages I've found, and use, that keep my system running smoothly: Disk Warrior X, published by Alsoft (Chapter 1, "Get Organized." First developed for an advertising agency, this utility provides a fast way to automatically create all the folders related to a project. Macaroni, published by Atomic Bird Software (http://www.atomicbird.com), is a tool that handles regular maintenance for Mac OS X, including the Mac OS X repair privileges process as well as Unix-style maintenance. Without Macaroni, some of these tasks normally run in the middle of the night, and don't get run unless you leave your Mac on all night. Others don't run automatically at all, and won't happen unless you remember when they're due. MacJanitor, written by Brian Hill (http://personalpages.tds.net/~brian_hill/macjanito174), is a freeware program, similar to Macaroni. I run Macaroni, but others are quite happy with MacJanitor. Either one can help keep your system running smoothly. FCP logging template, written by me (http://www.larryjordan.biz/goodie175), is a free Excel worksheet that I use for logging tapes. For me, using this file is much faster than using the built-in logger of Final Cut. An additional benefit is that you have an Excel listing of every shot on your tape. I've been using this for years. Instructions are in the template.
