2. Protecting Your Project Using Save As

In this exercise, you will learn how to use Save As to create a backup of your project files, and you'll also use it to perform final maintenance before archiving your project.

1.

Open Chapter 13 Lesson, if it isn't open already. This is the same file you used in Exercise 1.

2.

Choose File > Save As and save the project using a new name. (I often just use the letters v2 or v3, indicating the version number of the project file.)

The benefit to using Save As is twofold: it provides a backup of your file in case something happens to the first one, and Final Cut uses this as an opportunity to straighten out any internal numbers or pointers that may be flaky.

Although you can easily make a backup of your file in the Finder, this internal repair can only be accomplished when Final Cut does a Save As.

I find myself using this procedure as a backup system during a project, just before final output and just prior to archiving the project.

3.

When the Save As is done, it's time to delete your render files. Keep everything open for the next exercise.
