Exporting to DVD

I devote the final lesson of this book to making DVDs with Premiere Pro and Adobe Encore DVD 2.0. Those DVDs will run the gamut from simple, single-menu DVDs to full-blown DVDs with video menus, music, scene selection menus and animated buttons.

I include the Export to DVD option here because it is part of the Export menu and its implementation is very basic. You use it to create a DVD that will play automatically when inserted into a DVD player. It will have no menus or other DVD features like chapter points.

To see the Export to DVD options, select File > Export > Export to DVD. Here is an overview:

  • Burn to Disc Use this to create an auto-play DVD.

  • Burn To Folder Encodes the files and saves them in a specified folder. You can play that DVD content from your hard drive using DVD player software.

  • Burn To ISO Image Encodes to an ISO (International Standardization Organization) image and saves the file in the specified location. You can use just about any DVD burning software to create a DVD from that file.

  • Loop Playback The finished DVD will play the video from start to end, and then automatically play the video again.

  • Settings This takes you to the Adobe Media Encoder where you can tweak the MPEG-2 settings. As shown in the next figure, MPEG-2 is grayed out, meaning you do not have an option to use any other kind of video encoder.

If you want to create a DVD, click Burn. That will transcode your sequence, using the MPEG-2 settings you selected, then burn the DVD. Once completed, you can pop it right into your DVD player and view it on a TV set, or play it on your PC using DVD player software like Windows Media Player.
