Working with Source Monitor editing tools: Lesson 5-4
It's helpful to trim clips before moving them from the Project panel (or Storyboard) to the Timeline. Do that by double-clicking a file name or thumbnail to display it to the Source Monitor and trim it there.

Selecting multiple clips
![]() | Another way to select more than one clip in the Timeline is to Shift+click on clips, one at a time. This works the same way as the standard Windows Ctrl+click method for selecting a group of files one file at a time. |
3. | Double-click Video 5k to open it in the Source Monitor. |
NoteYou also can drag the clip from the Project panel and drop it on the Source Monitor.
4. | Move the Source Monitor's CTI to 02;13, just before the dancer slams his foot to the floor. That's where you want this clip to start.[View full size image]![]() |
5. | Click the Set In Point button. |
NoteThe Set In Point button is the same as that used in the Capture panel. It also has the same keyboard shortcut: I.
6. | Play the clip, listen for a logical out-point and place the Source Monitor's CTI there. I would select 06;02. |
Move to exact timecode
7. | Click the Set Out Point button. |
8. | Navigate back and forth between the in- and out-points by clicking the Go to In Point (keyboard shortcut: Q) and Go to Out Point (V). And play that entire segment by clicking the Play In to Out button. |
9. | Move the Timeline CTI to the beginning of the sequence. |
10. | Check to see that the Video 1 and Audio 1 track headers (highlighted in the next figure) are selectedtargeted in Premiere Pro parlance. If not, click on one or both to highlight them (their corners also become rounded).![]() |
11. | Click the Source Monitor Lesson 5-3 Sequence. |
NoteClicking either Insert or Overlay will place the clip at the Timeline CTI.
