Emailing Photos

A group of photos to be printed can be too large for emailing. You may have trouble sending photos if your (or your recipient's) ISP or mail service bounces attachments larger than 1 or 2 MB. Even if the transfer is successful, you may overload your recipients' inboxes and annoy them. Windows solves this problem with image-shrinking tools.

To email photos:

1. Choose Start > My Pictures and then the subfolder (if any) containing your photos.

2. Select the photos to send.

3. In the task pane at the left, in the File and Folder Tasks section, click E-Mail This File or E-Mail the Selected Items, if you selected more than one.

4. In the Send Pictures via E-Mail dialog box, click Show More Options to expand the dialog box (Figure 9.17 ).

Figure 9.17. The default settings compress and resize images to 640 x 480 pixels, which is fine for onscreen viewing. A larger size shows more detail and prints better, at the cost of bigger files and slower emailing.

5. Make a selection, and click OK (Figure 9.18 ).

Figure 9.18. Windows opens your email program, creates a new message, and attaches the compressed files. You type the recipient's address, add your own note, and send the message.
