Sending Files and Folders
Compressing Files and Folders" later in this chapter)Other destinations, depending on the programs installed
To send an item:
1. In Windows Explorer or on the desktop, select the item(s) that you want to send.2. Right-click one item; choose Send To; then choose a destination from the submenu (Figure 5.34 ).
Figure 5.34. The Send To menu often is faster than dragging and dropping. Windows adds destinations for removable media automatically. The bottom three menu items are a floppy disk, CD writer, and USB flash drive.

Tips

1. Choose Start > My Computer > Local Disk (C:) > Documents and Settings > <your user name> .If Windows is installed on a drive other than C:, choose that drive instead.2. If the Send To folder is hidden, choose Tools > Folder Options > View tab > Show Hidden Files and Folders.3. Add the desired shortcuts to the folder (or choose File > New > Shortcut) (Figure 5.35 ).
Figure 5.35. Here, I've added a few custom destinations to the standard ones. The Notepad shortcut opens any file in Notepad, regardless of the file's type. The Backups shortcut copies files to a safe place. The printer (HP LaserJet) shortcut prints documents with no need to open their associated applications.
