Logging on to a Domain


If you've turned off the Welcome screen, or if you're joined to an XP Pro network domain, you'll log on via the classic logon prompt (Figure 16.14 ). Domain logon is like standard logon but requires an extra bit of information: a domain name (available from your network administrator).

To log on to a workgroup or stand-alone computer:


1. If the dialog box in

Figure 16.15 appears, press Ctrl+Alt+Delete to display the classic logon prompt.

2. Type your user name in the User Name box.

3. If your account is password-protected, type your password in the Password box.

4. Press Enter or click OK.


To log on to a domain:


1. Follow steps 1 to 3 in "To log on to a workgroup or stand-alone computer."

2. If the Log on To box doesn't appear, click Options to expand the dialog box.

3. Click the down arrow to the right of the Log on To box; then choose the correct domain name from the drop-down list.

4. Click OK to log on to Windows XP and your network domain.

If you're at the Welcome screen, you can press Ctrl+Alt+Delete to make the classic logon prompt appear. If you have difficulty with this keyboard shortcut, hold down Ctrl and Alt; then press Delete twice.
