Creating a New Internet Account

To create a new internet account:


1. Choose Start > All Programs > Accessories > Communications > New Connection Wizard.

The New Connection Wizard appears (Figure 12.1 ).

2. Click Next to skip the Welcome page.

3. On the Network Connection Type page, select Connect to the Internet; then click Next.

4. On the Getting Ready page, select Choose from a List of Internet Service Providers (ISPs); then click Next.

5. On the Completing page, click Finish.

The wizard closes, and the Online Services window opens.

6. In the Online Services window, double-click the icon Refer Me to More Internet Service Providers.

The Internet Connection Wizard starts.

7. On the first page of the Internet Connection Wizard, click Next.

The wizard dials out (toll-free) on your modem, downloads information about ISPs, and then displays

Figure 12.2. The listed ISPs basically are identical; use price and the availability of local dial-up numbers as your selection criteria. During the sign-up process, Windows dials a toll-free number to send your name, address, credit-card number, chosen email address, and other information to your new ISP. If Windows can't find an ISP in your area, you'll have to find one yourself and set it up manually (see the next section).

8. Follow the onscreen instructions.

When you're done, a new connection icon appears in the Network Connections window.

9. Choose Start > All Programs > Accessories > Communications > Network Connections.

10. Double-click the connection icon to go online or right-click it to see its properties.
