Bookmarking Pages

You can keep track of web pages that you like and open them quickly in the future.

You can add a page to your Favorites list. Any time that you want to open that page, click Favorites on the toolbar (or press Ctrl+I); then click the shortcut in the Favorites list. (Or use the Favorites menu.)

To add a page to your Favorites list:

1.

Go to the page that you want to add.

2.

Choose Favorites > Add to Favorites (Figure 13.11 ).

Figure 13.11. Press Ctrl+D to make the current page appear instantly at the bottom of your Favorites list (bypassing the dialog box in step 3).

3.

Type a new name for the favorite, if you like.

4.

Optional. Click Create In to choose the folder (or create a new folder) to store the favorite in.

5.

Click OK.

Tip

As your Favorites menu grows, you can organize your bookmarks into folders: Choose Favorites > Organize Favorites (or press Ctrl+B) (Figure 13.12 ). It's easier, however, to work in the Favorites folder directly than to use the Organize Favorites dialog box. In Windows Explorer, navigate to C:\Documents and Settings\

<your user name >\Favorites, and use it as you would any other folder.

Figure 13.12. Drag shortcuts up or down to organize the list. Click a list item and use the buttons at left to rename it, delete it, or stick it in a folder.

You can add a few pages that you visit often to the Links bar for one-click access.

To add a page to your Links bar:

1.

Go to the page that you want to add.

2.

Drag the page icon from the Address bar to the Links bar (Figure 13.13 ).

Figure 13.13. You can drag a link to the Links folder in your Favorites list. If the Links bar is hidden, choose View > Toolbars > Links. Right-click a link to rename it, delete it, or see its properties. Drag links around the Links bar to rearrange them.

Your

home page appears each time you start Internet Explorer. When you first open IE, you may see www.msn.com or your PC manufacturer's page, but you can change that.

To change your home page:

1.

Go to your desired home page.

2.

Choose Tools > Internet Options > General tab > Home Page section (refer to Figure 13.7).

3.

Click Use Current to set the web page that you have open as your home page.

or

Click Use Default to use the home page that was set when Internet Explorer was first installed.

or

Click Use Blank to use a blan233 page as your home page.

Tip

To return to your home page, click the Home button on the toolbar (or press Alt+Home).
