  • Turn Edges


    The ability to turn edges is a function of Edit Mesh that was left out of Editable Poly in previous versions of 3ds maxbut it's in version 7. Now you can select an edge in Editable Poly and turn it in the other direction. This affects only invisible edges, which show as dotted lines instead of solid lines.

    Functionally, Turn Edges works the same in Editable Poly as it does in Edit Mesh. You turn edges by first clicking the Turn button, then clicking an invisible edge (the thin dotted line). This causes the invisible edge to be drawn diagonally from the opposite corners (Figure 2.10).

    If the invisible edges are in the opposite direction of a model's curvature, a distracting zigzag pattern will appear. This zigzag can also appear as spikiness in an area of the model that is expected to be a smooth and curvy deformation. This usually happens in areas of a model where the deformation goes against the natural contour of the edges (Figures 2.11 and 2.12).
