mental ray Shadow Map RolloutIn previous versions of 3ds max, you could obtain shadows with translucency (as cast by transparent or translucent objects) only if Ray Traced Shadows was chosen as the shadow type from the General Parameters rollout. Standard shadow mapping produced only solid shadows in a solid color.The enhanced mental ray Shadow Map parameters rollout (Figure 5.3) in 3ds max 7 now lets you render a shadow-mapped shadow with transparency. With this new option, objects that are transparent will cast a shadow with transparency from a light that has this property checked (Figure 5.4). The Filter Color of the object's material determines the color of the shadow. Figure 5.3.
