Disabling Toolbars

There may be times, especially in multiuser settings, when you do not want users to have access to the formatting toolbars. With a single script step, you can control whether the toolbars will be available.

To disable toolbars

1 .Choose Scripts > ScriptMaker (Control+Shift+S/Command+Shift+S).

2 .When the Define Scripts dialog box appears, click New. In the Edit Script dialog box, type Disable Toolbars as the script name.

3 .In the Miscellaneous section of the step list, double-click Allow Toolbars.

4 .

Leave the option set to Off (Figure 9.63). Click OK twice.

Figure 9.63. Setting Allow Toolbars to Off prevents a user from turning on any toolbars.

5 .Choose File > File Options.

6 .Click the Open/Close tab of the File Options dialog box. In the "When opening this file" section, check the "Perform script" box and choose the Disable Toolbars script (Figure 9.64). Click OK.

Figure 9.64. Setting the Disable Toolbars script to run when the file opens will disable access automatically.

7 .When the database opens, all the options in the Toolbars submenu will be disabled (Figure 9.65).

If you want to turn toolbar access back on, duplicate the script, change its name to Enable Toolbars and switch the option to On. When that script runs, toolbar access is enabled.
