Copying the Contents of Records

The Export File function in FileMaker has very extensive capabilities, but it often is too time-consuming to use for small bits of data. When you want to grab a quick copy of all the data in a record (or records), you can easily do so, and maintain a tab-delimited format while you're at it.

To copy one or all records to the Clipboard

1 .Go to a layout with the fields to be copied.

2 .Click any blank spot on the layout so that no fields are selected (Figure 11.73).

Choose Edit > Copy.

4 .Switch to the program where you want to use the copied data. Choose Edit > Paste. The data will appear with tabs between each field and a return at the end (Figure 11.74).

Tip

If you want to copy the data from all of the records in a found set, hold the Control/Option key down as you choose Edit > Copy in step 3.
