Configuring Databases for Web Access

Enabling IWP is painless and simple. You don't need any new installations or plug-ins. Even better, you can quickly enable any open database, not just the one you may have active at the moment. Once you've turned IWP on, it will continue to run quietly in the background.

To enable IWP

1 .Open any databases you want to publish on the Web, including any related external databases.

2 .Choose Edit > Sharing > Instant Web Publishing (Windows) FileMaker Pro > Sharing > Instant Web Publishing (Mac) to open the Instant Web Publishing dialog box.

3 .In the Instant Web Publishing Settings section, click the Instant Web Publishing On radio button (Figure 17.1).

Figure 17.1. You only need to enable one radio button to publish all your databases on the Web.

Instant Web Publishing access to file" section becomes active.

Figure 17.2. You set the access settings for each open database file individually.

5 .Click the All users radio button. This allows anyone who knows the URL for the file to access it.

6 .Repeat steps 3 and 4 for all open files, then click OK when done.

Your databases are now Web accessible.

Tip

Any database you enable in IWP automatically appears in the Web status area. If you have one or more related files, you may not want people to see them as database options. To prevent these file names from appearing in the file list, click the " Don't display in Instant Web Publishing homepage" check box when you enable the file in IWP.
