Linking to IWP Databases

Users accessing your database will see the default home page that FileMaker generates. Most of the time, this is a real time-saver, because it automatically manages your databases. As long as a file is open on the computer that is hosting the databases, a link to the file will automatically appear.

But you may already have an existing Web site and want users to be able to reach your IWP databases directly from there. If so, you'll want to create a Web page link to a published database and bypass the IWP-generated page.

To link to IWP from another Web page

1 .

Using a214 editing program or Web page layout program, create your custom page.

2 .

To create links on the page to the databases that you plan to publish, launch your Web browser and access the first of your published databases (refer to Figure 17.4).

3 .In the browser, click the link to the first database. The URL for the database will appear in the address line. Select and copy the full address (Figure 17.21).

Figure 17.21. Copy the full URL from the Web browser.

4 .Paste the copied address into you218 code as the link to that database (

5 .

Repeat steps 3 and 4 for each database that will be listed on the page.

When users access your page, they'll be able to access your databases without seeing the IWP default home page (Figure 17.23).
