Chapter 17. Instant Web Publishing

In Chapter 16, "Multiuser Files on a Network," we used FileMaker to access FileMaker databases over the Internet. Although useful, it's actually not the best and most flexible way to combine FileMaker and the Web. FileMaker lets you use a Web browser to access your databases, which means you can make your files available to others even if they don't own FileMaker.

If you are not a crackerjack Web programmer and your needs are simple, the best way to get your databases on the Web is by using FileMaker's Instant Web Publishing (IWP). IWP is extremely user friendly. Just by configuring a database for Web access, you can put actual files on the Web with almost no prior Web experience. If you already have some Web publishing and design experience, you can even suppress the IWP status area to add your own look and feel to your Web page. In this chapter, we show you how to take advantage of IWP's simple yet powerful features.
