14.8 USING TEMPLATES FOR MESSAGE SUPPRESSIONThere are many other concepts related to template configuration that are covered in more detail in the product documentation this section provides an introduction to the concepts of message management. Normal operation with OVO brings many messages into the message browser. Some of them are extremely important and some may be for information only or not required at all. Occasionally, the same message appears multiple times. As shown in Chapter 13, "Out-of-the-box with OpenView Operations," it is possible to configure the server to display one instance of the message and count the duplicates. However, a better method of avoiding unwanted messages at the source is considering when setting up new policies. You can choose to suppress all messages that match the criteria within the conditions, suppress unmatched messages if they do not match the specific conditions, or send a message if the condition is matched. You create a condition for each possible scenario that could potentially generate a message. Figure 14-24 shows the list of conditions for a system log file.Figure 14-24 indicate eight conditions that, the first matched condition, will send a message to the server (the "+" mean message on matched condition). If there are no match conditions, the last condition in the list (shown with a "-") suppresses messages from all other system log file events. For an example of the suppression condition for the system log file, see Figure 14-25. Figure 14-25.
