Chapter 7. Advanced Customization Advanced customization of NNM requires editing text files referred to as registration files. There are several types of registration files available for customization. This chapter covers the purpose of each type of registration file and provides examples of each. Application Registration Files (ARFs) allow the administrator to modify NNM's menu bar selections, the symbol popup menu, and the toolbar icons. Web Launcher Registration Files (WLRFs) allow the administrator to add menu items to the Web Launcher interface. Network Presenter Registration Files (NPRFs) allow the admin to customize the menu items on the Network Presenter. Symbol Registration Files (SRFs) allow the admin to create symbols with custom bitmaps. Field Registration Files (FRFs) allow the admin to add custom fields (isRouter, isHub, etc) to devices. Registration files are read dynamically (if placed in the proper directory) when a user starts an ovw session.Sealey Inc. has developed several applications that they would like to integrate into the network management solution. These applications have been ported from HP-UX to Windows NT and Windows 2000. Many of the applications can be executed via a web browser. They would like the applications to be available from the web interface as well as the native interface.Sealey Inc. manages a bagel company with SNMP-manageable toasters. They would like the ability to differentiate the SNMP toaster from other devices by using custom bitmaps. They would also like to quickly locate the toasters from the ovw GUI for troubleshooting purposes. The operators need to access online documentation, preferably via a web browser. This chapter includes details for advanced customization of NNM to satisfy the requirements of Sealey Inc.
