3.11 SUMMARY

There are several items that were not discussed in this chapter, such as the number of CPUs required in a given system or for a given product. Some processes will only use a single CPU and others will use multiple CPUs. Running multiple products that use only a single CPU could cause a CPU bottleneck. The ability to enhance disk I/O using JBOD, multiple channels and striping the logical volumes. Managing the management server itself, including the monitoring of its performance is important. These are just a few examples and there are more. Think of more, put them in the plan, and prioritize them. Prioritize all the required functionality and implement the functionality in stages. Don't manage everything at once. Unless there is experience, knowledge, and workforce to design and implement all the requirements, take it a step at a time. Try to design the system in order that minimal changes are required when moving from one stage to another. These include changes in design in hardware and software. It is not always possible to do so and downtime will be required. It will take product knowledge, experience, and trial-and-error to implement a world class network, systems, and service management system.
