NNM, OVO, and other network and systems management products, as well as the UNIX system in general, benefit greatly from proper configuration of hostname naming services. There are many other services and server configurations that rely on hostname resolution that are not mentioned here, such as XDMCP, MC/ServiceGuard, and hp webadmin. There is too much at stake to not have hostname resolution resolve properly. Without proper resolution the NMS cannot function properly or provides accurate events, alarms, and correlation. These will be missed because of hostname authentication issues. If a company wants a world class network, systems, and service management system, that company must have a first class hostname naming service. |
