Who This Book Is For

System and Network Administrators

Network Node Manager (NNM) provides a graphical representation of your network, device status, and SNMP trap alerting capabilities. NNM also collects and stores information retrieved from SNMP-based devices, including MAC address, equipment vendor, and model, that system and network administrators can use to troubleshoot the enterprise.

Network Design Architects
NNM can be used to collect statistical data for historical trending. Network architects can use this tool for capacity planning.

Application Administrators
OVO provides the capability for application monitoring. Smart Plug-Ins can be used to for monitoring specific applications such as databases.

Application Developers
OVO provides the capability to extend application monitoring by customizing templates. Application developers (or administrators familiar with the application log files and system resource requirements) can create templates to specifically monitor an application.

Database Administrators
OVO can be used to monitor many different databases such as Oracle®, MS SQL®, SAP R/3®, and DB2®. Database administrators may want to assist in configuring database templates so that they are alerted when database problems arise.

Information Technology Managers
While this book is primarily intended for technical implementation, management can use it to better understand what NNM, CV, SIP and OVO provide. References to additional OpenView products will be mentioned throughout the book.

Unix and Windows Administrators
NNM and OVO provide HP-UX®, Solaris®, Linux®, and Windows®-based solutions for monitoring your enterprise. Unix and Windows administrators can use OpenView tools for notification and troubleshooting in the enterprise.
