Chapter 11. Service Information Portal


Service Information Portal (SIP) can provide a wealth of information about your networking environment via a web browser. It can be customized to provide NNM topology submaps, SNMP data collection, and NNM alarms. SIP can also provide information such as Key Device Health, Router Health, and Server Health, as configured with

Customer Views (CV). This chapter covers the demo portal provided with SIP, configuration of SIP users, and integration of NNM and CV. Although SIP provides integration of additional OpenView products, including

OpenView Operations (OVO),

Internet Services (OVIS),

Service Navigator (OVSN),

OpenView Service Reporter (OVSR),

OpenView Performance Insight (OVPI), and

Service Desk (OVSD), this chapter is limited to the integration of NNM and CV. For more information on the integration of OpenView products, refer to SIP documentation that can be found at http://ovweb.external.hp.com:80/lpe/doc_serv/.

IP is not required to reside on the same system as the applications that provide the portal data. In fact, you may consider separating the servers with the use of firewalls as depicted in Figure 11-1a. Given this scenario, a client accesses the data via a web browser located on the Extranet, an extension of the service provider's network. The SIP server resides on the DMZ, or demilitarized zone of the provider's network. The data servers, such as NNM and OVO, reside on the Intranet. Secure ports are opened between the Intranet, DMZ, and Extranet to allow necessary communication.
