Chapter 33. Overriding Master Items
QuarkXPress lets you select and modify any master page item while on a document page. This can cause problems because you may edit a master page item accidentally, breaking the link between the document page and the master page. In InDesign you cannot select a master page item by simply clicking on it while on a document page.However, note that you don't actually need to select master page items when placing imported text or graphics (like you do in XPress). InDesign is smart enough to know that if you click a loaded Place icon on a master page frame, the master frame should accept the content. That means that you only need to override a master page item when you need to change something about the object.Also unlike XPress, InDesign lets you turn off and on the visibility of master page items by choosing Display Master Items from the View menu.
