Chapter 74. Creating and Importing TablesTables have been used as a visual way to communicate structured information for hundreds of years. While commands for creating and editing tables have long been available in word processing software and applications which work with structured documents like Adobe FrameMaker, QuarkXPress and InDesign have added table support only relatively recently. Table creation and editing is now available in QuarkXPress 5 and InDesign 2, but InDesign has far more table features than XPress.Tables are a relatively deep issue so our discussion will continue in the next several chapters. In this chapter we talk about what tables are and how to create or import them. In the next chapter, we discuss how to format the table itself, in Chapter 76 we focus on formatting the text inside a table, and in Chapter 77, we talk about how to incorporate graphics. Finally, Chapter 78 completes the subject by discussing how to adjust a table's alignment and spacing. |
