Chapter 83. Colors & Color Libraries

Color libraries are groups of colors that have been saved together, added to the Swatches palette, and used in your document. Popular color libraries that ship with InDesign include Pantone, Trumatch, and Web-safe colors. Because libraries can contain thousands of colors each, InDesign does not automatically add them all to your Swatches palette; you must add colors one at a time.

You can access colors stored in libraries by choosing New Color Swatch from the Swatches palette's flyout menu and then selecting a library by name (see Figure 83-1). InDesign's 15 color libraries are listed under the Color Mode popup menu following the RGB, CMYK and LAB color models. Unfortunately, InDesign lacks QuarkXPress's ability to create multi-ink colors.

To find a particular color in a library, either scroll through the list or type the color's number code. To add that color to your Swatches palette, click OK. Unfortunately, you can only add one color at a time.
